Volunteerism

Aldersgate is a supportive environment for finding purpose, staying engaged, and being of service

We believe in the power of volunteerism and living a life of purpose. Like many things at Aldersgate, volunteering can take many forms.

Giving Back in Our Community

Charlotte Museum of History

The Charlotte Museum of History is a gem of a place, located right on the Givens Aldersgate campus! Volunteers help with daily tours of the historic Alexander Rock House, admissions, school programs and administrative duties.

Trees Charlotte

Our partnership with Trees Charlotte provides residents and volunteers with a meaningful opportunity to give back through environmental stewardship and community engagement. During volunteer events, participants work together to support local tree planting and beautification efforts, helping strengthen Charlotte’s urban canopy while promoting sustainability and wellness.

Reading Program

Each year, our residents work with school-age children to build reading, writing, and study skills. This intergenerational program keeps kids engaged in learning and helps prepare them for better academic performance

Our Nature Trails

Our residents, along with several dedicated volunteer groups, have worked together to create and maintain the natural walking trails throughout our campus. These scenic trails provide opportunities to enjoy the beauty of nature, stay active, and connect with neighbors and friends. Throughout the year, residents and volunteers regularly gather for trail workdays to help preserve and enhance the paths, reflecting the strong sense of community stewardship and shared pride that makes our campus so special.

The Urban Farm

Our partnership with Carolina Farm Trust reflects our commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and meaningful volunteer opportunities. Through this collaboration, Carolina Farm Trust leases and cultivates land on our campus as part of its Urban Farm initiative, creating a shared space focused on fresh food, education, and environmental stewardship. Residents and volunteers have opportunities throughout the year to participate in farm-related events, educational programs, seasonal activities, and community gatherings that foster connection across generations while supporting local agriculture and wellness.

Hub for Non-profit Organizations

With six non-profits within Givens Aldersgate and our outreach to the local community, we encourage our residents to bring their gifts to our community and engage in new and exciting hobbies. We partner with 60+ organizations, many of whom meet regularly on our campus, making it easier for our residents to participate.

On-Campus Services

As a nonprofit Life Plan Community, Givens Aldersgate offers countless opportunities for residents to stay engaged, share their talents, and make a meaningful impact both on campus and throughout the greater community. Residents actively participate in a wide variety of Givens Aldersgate committees and volunteer groups focused on areas such as marketing, finance, dining, health and wellness, and much more. Many also dedicate their time and expertise to local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations across the region.

Resident- and Corporate-Sponsored Groups

We create an opportunity for residents to pursue meaningful connections at every turn. If you have a project, club or charity you’re passionate about, we’ll help you launch it at the Givens Aldersgate community. Corporate groups including Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Truist participate onsite with volunteer projects as well.
